When the first Valentine's Day my current girlfriend and I celebrated rolled around, I wanted to make something fun for her. As she's a total Star Wars buff (only losing to me 75% of the time we play Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, which is admirable), I decided to make her a variant of Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber from the prequel trilogy.
Cribbing off some how-to notes from The Big Yellow Box, I made my own lightsaber out of chromed drain piping, o-rings, and other hardware. The finished product was clearly a variation of the original, but still had the same characteristic look.
For some reason, the activation studs on all lightsabers are red. (I think it's required by law.) There's also a belt mount at the base, although I doubt that my girlfriend has the guts to wear it out. Oh well, it's still pretty just to look at.
